At this time I am
the director of the division of Pediatric
Otolaryngology at the Childrens Hospital of Los
Angeles. In addition, I teach a pre-med
undergraduate course and a course at the medical
school at the University of Southern California
where I went to Med school when I left New York in
1968.
My wife, Esther,
is a nurse and works with me. I have three
children: My oldest, Loren is an orthopedic surgery
resident at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec,
Canada; my daughter, Allison, is a grade school
teacher in San Francisco, and my youngest son, Eric
is an aerospace engineer at Northrup Grumman here
in Los Angeles. I have very fond memories of HOB
and was amazed by this sudden amazing trip to the
past.

My wife, Karen,
and I have been married for 40 years and we live in
Bethesda, Maryland, just outside Washington, DC. We
also have a house in Albuquerque, NM. (Karen was an
Air Force brat. She moved often, but spent most of
her formative years in Clovis, Alamogordo, and
Albuquerque, NM.) We have two children -- Maddie is
36 and owns a gym in Bethesda, Maryland under her
202 Strong brand, and Will is an agent at one of
the big Hollywood talent agencies dealing with
authors, screenwriters, and directors. Karen worked
as an editor at The New Republic, then stopped for
about 12 or 13 years to be a stay at home mom, and
went back to work as a freelance writer and one of
the founding editors/staff members at Bethesda
Magazine.
After graduating
from Queens College in 1970, I went to graduate
school at Columbia University and the New School
for Social Research where I got my PhD in
Economics. I became a faculty member of the
Government Department at the University of Texas at
Austin. I left Austin in 1982 and moved to
Washington, DC. My first job was with
then-Congressman (now Senator) Chuck Schumer and
then I moved to the Joint Economic Committee where
I worked with a number of Congressman and Senators.
I moved to the World Bank in 1988 and stayed there
for nearly 24 years, before retiring in 2011. Since
then, I've done consulting work for US and
international organizations. In addition, I keep
busy with golf and photography and working out at
my daughter's gym.
