Last spring, the men of BAMBOO finished second In Intramural competition. HOBAD (House of Bamboo Athletic Director) has already predicted a first place finish this fall. HOB has finally arrived as an athletic power.

Most houseplans have a select clique of jocks who control athletics. This Is not true at Bamboo. Everyone participates (regardless of ability) In football, basketball and volleyball. Our members pride themselves on their unity. We have the spirit that only the drama of athletic competition brings out.

Our volleyball team Is a case In point. This amateur team (composed of all members In rotation) was expected to finish last. But we took third by beating powerful Empire House, Power House and State House In closely contested games. This year, with the return of an intact team and the fine coaching of Steve Wolff, the team is unstoppable.

The football squad will never rival or strike fear upon the hearts of the "Subway Alumni," but this team will knock a few heads. Led by HOBAD himself as quarterback, HOB will finish near if not at the top. Our behemoth offensive line, anchored by 6'7", 235-pound Howard "Turkey" Jacobson, expects little trouble. Two of our backs are on the track team. We have, by far, the most avant-garde plays ever devised. For example, our first play of the practice season began when the ball was snapped, not to the quarterback, but to our halfback in motion, who handed it off to the right guard, whose lateral was then received by HOBAD, who faked a Statue of Liberty to the left end and ran the ball to the opposition's five yard line. Although the play began on their six yard line, the execution was perfect.

However, one point must be stressed. BAMBOO teams are made up of all members. The best man will play. It is our policy that perspective members be given a fair chance to make the team. If you join BAMBOO you will participate in intramurals. It is our hope that you will help make this HOB athletic season the best yet in our history. Play ball with BAMBOO, win with BAMBOO.
